Sherry Roberson has much to
celebrate at JiA party on May 16
By Joel Goldenthal

Soulful hard-swinging vocalist Sherry Roberson headlines the Jazz in AZ May party on Kazimierz World Wine Bar in Scottsdale on Sunday, May 16, from 3 to 5 p.m. This will be Sherry's first appearance back on U.S. soil following a three-month engagement at a top jazz club in Bangkok. It's also the first performance for the newlywed Sherry, who married longtime companion Oscar Ford earlier this year.
Roberson came to the Valley in 1959, where she has had a long history of club and concert performances. Her vocal style is blues influenced, and she has a freight train-like drive and a propensity to “play with time,” moving phrases ahead or behind the beat, as the spirit prompts her.
Due to a schedule conflict with this year's Bangkok engagement, Sherry

missed performing in the Diva Concert in March at Kerr. “Three months is a long time to be away from home because there's no place like home,” Sherry says. “I hate that I missed the Diva shows; I always look forward to them each year. But I'm sure the ladies (Margo Reed, Nancy Gee, Delphine Cortez and Vicki McDermitt) tore the house down and left everyone with smiles on their faces. I'm looking forward to playing with 'the Diva band' (Jerry Donato-sax, Joel Robin-piano, Bob Lashier-bass, Cleve Huff-drums) and seeing everyone at the Jazz in AZ party. I'll have a lot of memories to share with everyone.”
This will be one swingin' party, and your opportunity to welcome Sherry home and to congratulate the newlyweds. Kazimierz World Wine Bar is a casual venue with great food, wine and beverages.
Sherry Roberson
Kaz is located at 7137 E, Stetson Dr., Scottsdale. Admission to the public is $10 (FREE if you join Jazz in AZ at the party). JiA member rates apply.
